Different Customs for Jewish Funerals
Customs vary depending on religion when it comes to funerals. In the Jewish faith, mourners will sit Shiva where friends and family will gather for a particular time period before burial. Following this period, there are other traditions that are followed. These customs were created many years ago but still hold true today.
Varying Religious Practices at Funerals
Because our North American society is composed of so many different ethnicities, we also see quite a variation in traditional customs when it comes to funerals. They can differ greatly from one to the other.
In most European services, the body is usually not cremated and the casket is taken into their church for the main service. Many Europeans also choose to have their loved one’s final resting place be at a mausoleum as opposed to a traditional cemetery burial.
In the Hindu, Quaker, Buddhist, and Mormon religions, to name a few, the funeral customs will be drastically different, something most of us will never see. Funerals that are different based on religion will carry through their own customs utilizing their places of worship in addition to a funeral home for certain details.
